Hiking tour in
Switzerland on the weekend of the 22nd of August 2026
Roland, a resident of Switzerland and
the proud owner of the Barrett female dog Tonka, had invited everyone
to a "Barrett hike" in beautiful Switzerland back in the
spring of this year.
Eleven people had planned to attend, though the number of participants
dropped by four at the last minute due to illness and work commitments.
This smaller group completed the planned hike as well as a shorter
route the following Sunday. The weather was mixed on the day of the
main hike, but the group was rewarded with picture-perfect weather
on Sunday. Whether on Saturday’s tour or Sunday’s, the views
were simply magnificent.
On Saturday, the day began with a gondola
ride up to an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters. From there, the
group hiked down to a spot for a midday break and eventually made their
way back to the valley station. They stopped at a beautifully situated
lake; the dogs were thrilled by the water and immediately took a dip.
There was no friction whatsoever between the Barretts, so they could
even be allowed to run off-leash at times during the hike, whenever
the terrain permitted.
The group rounded off the day with an excellent dinner up on the mountain.
Jack even made the trip from Zurich just to join for dinner —
"Dog Mom." was very happy to see her son -After all, it is
tradition for all her "children" to take part in the hiking
day; this time, Jack was there to represent them all.
On Sunday, the remaining hikers were rewarded
with perfect weather. Xito's owners had to leave the group early Sunday
morning, as they still had a long way to go to reach their final destination.
So the small group of five, with their Barretts, Tessa, Tonka (both
siblings of the mother Enza), and Jango (son of Bacira and Gino), set
off on another beautiful hike, filled with impressions that both the
two-legged and four-legged participants will not soon forget. A breathtaking
panorama unfolded before them. The highlight of this hike was a first-ever
ride on a chairlift and an encounter with cows on the alpine pasture,
which they had to approach so closely to stay on the path. This made
not only the four-legged but also the two-legged participants a little
uneasy. The following pictures speak for themselves.
Although "Dog Mom" won't be
planning another hiking day herself, two "Barrett owners"
have already volunteered to organize the next one in 2027; it will
once again take place in the area of Haus Barrett (in Hesse, specifically
in the beautiful Odenwald region). Naturally, "Dog Mom" will
give the two ladies active support. We are already looking forward
to seeing everyone again next year. We are sure to be joined by new
"Barrett families" who have already welcomed—or will
soon welcome—their little "Barrett bears" in 2026.

well in advance.
